They say once the big crowds leave the area, must local businesses close their doors, leaving the local residents at the mercy of very expensive restaurants. We may add the rents in this area are not cheap. You may have to go to first avenue or York avenue to find that needle in the haystack. On that note keep in mind that because this mostly an office area, midtown east apartments will be lower in price than lets say Chelsea or Gramercy park.
In the other hand, you are near every possible subway line in Grand Central station and you could even catch a train to Long Island. You will find some of the best high rise buildings with all amenities and many of the best department stores in the world are in midtown east.

Would you like to take a break from looking at apartments? Then come by Bryant Park, great lawn invites you to lay in the grass, take your shoes off while you sip on a cup of coffee. There is also free WIFI here. and several trains near by.
How about catching an event at Radio City Music Hall, great sound and amazing shows. you can catch the Rockettes on Christmas. In case you didn't know, this is the largest indoor theater in the world.
Another great choice in this area is the MOMA with wonderfully presented art collection and amazing museum. You can catch a nice drink in their cozy cafeteria. They also have a nice movie theater and design store. come check it out and more.
